Nancy Pelosi March 21 2008

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of the United States Congress, has denounced China's crackdown of protesters in Tibet.

Speaker Pelosi, the first major official to visit the Dalai Lama since last week, was celebrated by cheering Tibetans as she arrived in Dharmasala. She was cheered loudly by thousands of people along the road to the Dalai Lama’s residence. Some waved Tibetan flags, some waved Indian flags, some waved U.S. flags. People held us signs with such declarations as "Thank You for Your Support" "Long Live America-Tibet Friendship."

"If freedom loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China's oppression in China and Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak on behalf of human rights anywhere in the world. The situation in Tibet is a challenge to the conscience of the world… Today we are here at this sad time together in shedding the bright light of truth on what is happening inside Tibet. We insist the world know what the truth is inside Tibet."

"Perhaps it our karma, our fate, to be with you at such a sad time. It is our karma, we know, to help the people of Tibet."
