I know people complain about Barack Obama and his ideas on spending, but do they not realize that the war in Iraq is costing this country a ton of money? If we were to pull out of Iraq we could easily provide tax breaks, while still making leeway on our national debt.

It's really scary how many lucrative programs the government has put in since 9/11. Requiring the air lines and cruise lines to collect and manage the border control regulations is both ridiculous and scary. You never know what the airlines would do with your information, or the consistency of how that information is collected.
It's also flat out ridiculous that these measures need to be in place.

I'm glad this did not go through. Tax the big oil companies, guess who will end up paying for it, the consumer. Any corporate tax produces a greater strain on the consumer as the price gets passed down to the consumer. Double taxation at its best!

It's obvious, Clinton is only hanging around for the off chance that Obama does something really stupid to lose the publics backing. One racial remark, or offbeat idea could be the end of his campaign, since he doesn't have the deep backing most politicians do.

Do you think that the Dalai Lama knew that the eyes of the world was going to be focused on China during these summer Olympics? That this would be a great time to further his cause by getting the Tibet monks to riot in the streets of Tibet and make China to look like the evil empire? I'm surprised it is going to take as long as May to start getting these checks out. I'm also surprised this is the answer to the economic problems the country is facing. I think fixing the way we are currently taxed would be a better long term solution, rather than a bandaid.

This is what is wrong with Washington. A simple idea, put money in the pockets of Americans, gets pummeled by add-ons from both sides. I don't understand why the simple flat rebate amount isn't enough for the politicians. They have to filibuster again and again.
